There's little question though, that we're over-represented amongst professionals and in business, both well-paying parts of the economy.
Some reasons:
1. In the Middle Ages and later, in Christian Europe, money-lending was prohibited for Christians, and all other occupations for Jews. So we were forced to get into finance - and hence, developed a tradition for it.
2. An ancient tradition for investing in our children's education - there is no such tradition in Christianity. This persists to the present day, and is partly responsible for the astonishing over-representation of Jews amongst Nobelists.
3. "Natural" selection - in the Middle Ages in Christian Europe, the smartest minds of each generation went into the Church - and hence produced no offspring. Meanwhile, the smartest minds in Judaism tended to become great scholars and were desirable partners and so if anything produced more offspring than average.
4. The dispersion of Jews to many countries had the result of expanding international trade - trade requires communication and trust.
In other words, if pre-modern Christian society had not crippled itself by denying to itself the finance industry, the benefit of its best minds, the advantages of education, we would not be on average better off. Or even more briefly, we kept moving forward while you insisted on staying back.
