Ariew and Erçetin (2004) analyzed the same data reported by Erçetin (2003) from a different perspective. For the intermediate language learners, they found significant negative relationships between reading comprehension and contextual graphics annotations and contextual movie annotations, respectively, meaning that pictures, drawings, and videos related to the topic did not help reading comprehension. The researchers suggested that video annotations distract the users and interfere with reading comprehension.
